Alpha Theta Beta Sorority proudly supports Safe Center Long Island and Make a Wish Foundation. Safe Center Long Island's mission is "to protect, assist and empower victims of family violence and sexual assault while challenging and changing social systems that tolerate and perpetuate abuse." We support them by attending events, such as the Domestic Abuse Awareness Ceremony and a Consent Discussion. The Make a Wish Foundation's mission is "to serve a unique, and vital, role in helping strengthen and empower children battling critical illnesses." We support the organization by hosting our Monte Carlo event and Flag Football Event, as well as attending their Polar Plunge.
We also support various other philanthropic events hosted by other nonprofits, as well as Hofstra University organizations; this includes Relay for Life, Dance Marathon, Suicide Prevention Walk, Clothing Drive, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk, and many others.
Our Philanthropy Chair
My name is Amanda (she/her/hers) and I am the Philanthropy chair for Alpha Theta Beta. Philanthropy and community service are at the core of AOB and one of the main reasons I joined the organization. My favorite event to attend every year is Relay For Life on Hofstra's campus because it unites our sisters, the greek community, and the whole Hofstra community. One of my favorite memories from the event is having our sisters and the brothers of Phi Kappa Theta sitting in a circle singing along to one of their brothers playing the guitar. I love how we all come together to raise money for the American Cancer Society every year for this event.
Throughout the year, we work very closely with our two philanthropies, Make A Wish Foundation which supports research and care for children suffering from cancer and The Safe Center of Long Island which provides support to victims of family violence and sexual assault. Throughout the year, our sisterhood strives to donate our time and energy to these organizations as well as many others. Some of our annuals events include a Monte Carlo Night and a Flag Football Tournament, as well as participating in Shake A Rake. We also enjoy sponsoring Ma Jhosa, a child who lives in the Philippines. Knowing that we are making a difference in our community while creating memories that will last a lifetime makes our time worthwhile. To AOB, philanthropy is much more than a requirement as a sorority, but it is our way of strengthening our bond as a sisterhood by making a beneficial impact on the world around us.
