HOW TO JOIN

Potential New Members

Interested in joining? Girls are recruited every Fall and Spring Semester! Under Hofstra University Fraternity and Sorority life, you must meet the eligibilities listed below:

First semester students are not permitted to become new members.
All new members must be in good academic standing, having an overall GPA of at least 2.5 and are a registered full-time undergraduate student as defined by university policy.
Individuals who are on academic probation may not participate in New Member Programs.
All new and current members must be in good standing with Hofstra University.

Continuous Open Biding

Throughout the Fall & Spring Semester AOB participates in Continuous Open Biding (COB). COB's are typically 1:1 meets to get to know potential new members and for them to learn more about our organization. COB's are a laid back way for girls to learn if they are interested in greek life and AOB. To partake in a COB ladies can fill out an AOB interest form or reach out directly to our Vice President of Recruitment or our instagram. COB's do not guarantee that a bid will be offered, but provides ladies with an opportunity to receive one. There is also no commitment when attending a COB.

Informal Recruitment Round

Informal Recruitment Rounds are an event hosted by AOB. These kinds of rounds primarily occur during the fall semester but a few are held during the Spring. Informal rounds provide an opportunity to bond with AOB sisters and figure out if AOB is for them.

At the informal round there will be activities, music and many sisters. AOB Informal rounds are open to all Hofstra undergraduate women. Rounds will be promoted on the instagram and get involved.

Formal Recruitment

Formal Recruitment is ran through Hofstra Panhellenic. Formal recruitment is only ran in the Spring. To partake in formal recruitment students must apply through Hofstra Panhellenic.

The structure of formal recruitment is over the course of 4 days PNMS (potential new members) get to meet all of Hofstra's social sororities. On Bid day PNMS are told their sorority and they run home.

As of this year (2026) AOB will only be partaking in Day 1 and Bid day. This is because AOB prefers to have informal rounds and COB's to recruit. Many of our sisters join that way rather than formal recruitment. Our participation in formal recruitment may vary year to year. This year we will be hosting informal rounds open to those both in formal recruitment and not. We hope to see everyone there!
