Frequently Asked Questions

How can I manage both school and sorority life?

School is AOB's top priority! We are very understanding towards members that need to step back from the organization to focus on school work and other priorities. Additionally, AOB has a scholarship chair that is available to make study schedules and creates study groups for sisters to insure we do not fall behind.  At the end of the day we are all college students and we understand. As long as there is an open communication we are very accommodating. The biggest responsibility as a sister is attending chapter. Chapter is every Sunday and is a meeting amongst sisters to assure that we are all up to date on upcoming events.

Can I join as a commuter?

Yes! We have many sisters that are commuters. Some sisters do dorm together or live together, but it is not required.

What are the financial responsibilities?

Being a part of any sorority requires a payment of dues every semester. These dues fluctuate based on members. Typically sororities also have to pay national dues. AOB is a local organization so we do not pay national dues. If a sister is incapable of paying dues in full, our treasurer works with them to make a custom payment plan.

As an organization, we believe that finances should never keep women away from joining an organization. Therefore, we will do anything in our power to accommodate their needs.

Can I join if I am a part of a pre-professional/business organization?

(ex. Kappa Delta Pi, Akpsi, Zeta, etc..)

Yes! At Hofstra you can be a member of up to 2 pre-professionals/business fraternities and 1 social organization.

Can transfer students join?

Yes! Transfer students are able to join. Currently, we have 2 sisters that are transfers! Typically, they are required to have at least 1 completed semester at Hofstra prior to joining a greek organization. This is not always the case, but eligibility can be checked by the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement or through our Vice President of Recruitment.

Can I join as a Senior?

Yes! The only requirement is to have one completed semester at Hofstra. As long as the senior meets the 2.5 GPA requirement, is a full time student, and is in good standing at Hofstra.

We have had sisters in the past that joined their senior year and they still had the full sorority experience. Due to AOB being a local sorority, we are extremely close with our alumni and spend time with them. Sisterhood is for a life time!

How can I meet the sisters of AOB?

The sisters of AOB attend many events on campus such as the Involvement Fair and Meet The Greeks. We can also be seen tabling in the Student Center and are always looking to meet new people!
